Teacher Self-Care 101

Though often described as one of the most fulfilling professions, teachers have often reported equal levels of stress as a result of their job. Excess stress leads to burnout, which is more than just a disinterest in one’s job and other responsibilities, but can also lead to weakened levels of physical, mental, and emotional health. According to the turnover rates in these positions, it’s clear that many teachers come to realize how taxing their jobs can be and proceed to leave. Combating this burnout is imperative, as an inability to do so can leave future generations lacking from genuine educational experiences that stick with them through their adulthood. Systemic change is necessary, at the broader level. At the narrower level, however, teacher self-care is very important. Self-care strategies are known to reduce the stress experienced throughout the school day and encourage a healthier physical, mental, and emotional state of mind. For more information on the ways in which teachers across the nation are monitoring their health and taking better care of themselves, read on to the resource paired alongside this post.
